The Next BIG Thing!– NMMM Brings Dahi Handi to Melbourne!
Most of us are living in Melbourne for many years now. We all miss the festivals we are used to celebrating back home. Dahi handi is one such festival that is close to our hearts. It just instantly brings back memories of childhood. Somewhere back of the mind we know our kids have never experienced this festival and they miss out on the excitement we once enjoyed. With this thought in mind, to bring back that experience, that childhood and to show our kids how this festival is celebrated, Northern Melbourne Marathi Mandal is bringing Dahi Handi to Melbourne for the first time ever!

‘Snehasammelan and Kids Talent Show’ on 18 May 2024
We concluded our year with ‘Snehasammelan’ on 18 May 2024 at Barry Road Community Activity Centre. Various levels of competitions were organised during this event where the kids in our community can showcase their talents. We aimed to provide a Talent Show platform to the kids in this community through these activities. We had cultural events and Dhol Pathak Performance.
‘Holi Celebration’ on 23 March 2024
We started our year 2023 with our 1st event of ‘Holi Celebration’ on 23 March 2024 at Coburg Lakes Reserves. Not only kids but also elders got to enjoy to the fullest in this event.
‘NMMM Diwali’ on 5 Nov 2023
Our next event was ‘NMMM Diwali’ on 5 Nov 2023 at Barry Road Community Activity Centre. This event was packed with all the exciting entertainment. We had also had ‘Grahak Peth’ with 9 stall holders from all over Melbourne giving the feel of Diwali shopping during the event for all the attendees. Event was concluded with the great entertainment first ever NMMM Dhol Pathak performance.
‘Ganeshotsav’ on 23 Sept 2023
Then came our favourite festival- ‘Ganeshotsav’ on 23 Sept 2023 at Mickleham North Community Centre. We organised fun fair and lots of fun activities for kids on this day. Also, there was Ganapti Visarjan Miravnuk along with the celebrations.
Dahi Handi Celebration on 9 Sep 2023
We started our event calendar with Dahi Handi Celebration on 9 Sep 2023 Whittlesea Community Centre. This was a one of kind event as no other marathi mandal has ever celebrated this in Melbourne before. Our younger Aussie generation got to see what Dahi Handi celebration is and that too right here in Melbourne.
